Executive Chairman

Neil Eckert became a reinsurance broker in 1980, joining Benfield Lovick & Rees & Co in 1986. He was a Board member from 1991 until his resignation in 2000.

Neil founded Brit Insurance Limited in 1995 and remained its CEO until 2005, following which he served as a non-executive director of the company until 2008

Neil was the co-founder and CEO of Climate Exchange PLC until its sale to Intercontinental Exchange in 2010 for approximately £400 million. Following the sale of Climate Exchange, Neil founded Aggregated Micropower which was sold in January 2020.

Neil is currently Chairman of Incubex and is also on the board of Ebix, a $1bn Nasdaq listed company and the world’s leading provider of electronic exchange services to the insurance industry. It has been one of the fastest growing companies in the US over the last decade.

Neil is the Executive Chairman of Conduit. Neil is passionate about all things environmental and will be key to Conduit Re’s ESG strategy.

Trevor Carvey


Trevor has a track record of profitable build outs in the reinsurance industry. In 2002 he was recruited as a founding underwriter and leader at Arch Re Bermuda before which he led the consolidation and subsequent profitable turnaround of the GE Frankona Marine & Energy Global portfolio.

In 2007 Trevor joined Harbor Point Re in the UK to lead the build out of the reinsurance operation over a 5-year period. Subsequently he held the role of CUO Europe in the Alterra Re business which resulted from the merger of Max Re with Harbor Point in 2012. Trevor was part of the team responsible for the successful integration of the Alterra Global Re unit into Markel delivering an established and profitable business to the enlarged group.

Trevor was approached by Hamilton in 2015, to assist in building out a new treaty strategy in the UK and subsequently took on the role for leading the Lloyd’s approval of the syndicate business plan as active underwriter for the three years from 2016 to 2018.

Stuart Quinlan

Deputy CEO & COO

An experienced insurance and reinsurance leader, Stuart has a track record for developing and building successful, enduring and profitable businesses. Stuart has particular expertise in delivering effective IT strategies, recruitment and retention of top talent and monitoring and controlling the business. He has experience of dealing with regulators, rating agencies and investment stakeholders.

Stuart started his 30-year career underwriting casualty lines specialising in financial lines. At Royal & SunAlliance he was responsible for their £250m GWP UK financial lines book when he left in 2004 to join Novae as Underwriting Director.

From 2007 to 2012 at Zurich Insurance, he was head of Financial Lines and then CUO Professional Lines across Europe. He was then Head of Specialty and Deputy Active Underwriter at Barbican Insurance (Syndicate 1955). He joined Hamilton Insurance in 2015 to establish a new Lloyd’s business with Trevor Carvey.

Stuart is the Deputy CEO for Conduit Re, supporting Trevor on all aspects of the business and as COO with responsibility for building and managing the Group’s operations.

Elaine Whelan


Elaine is a highly accomplished and experienced public company CFO who has worked in the insurance industry for 20 years. She is a member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, a member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bermuda and a member of The Institute of Directors.

Having trained as an accountant with Coopers & Lybrand, Elaine started working as an auditor at PwC in Bermuda in 1997. From 2001 to 2006 she held a number of positions at Zurich Insurance Company, Bermuda Branch, ending up as Chief Accounting Officer. In 2006 she joined the Lancashire Group as Financial Controller. She subsequently performed various financial and management roles for the Lancashire Group, including as CEO, Lancashire Insurance Company Limited. From January 2011 to February 2020 Elaine was Group CFO, Lancashire Holdings Limited, and she was also a main board director from 2013 to February 2020.

Elaine is based in Bermuda and is responsible for all aspects of Conduit Re’s financial management and reporting and will sit as an executive director on the board of Conduit Holdings Limited and Conduit Reinsurance Limited.

Tristan McDonald

Strategy and Investor Relations

Tristan has a 20 year background of working in the financial markets, primarily in the reinsurance industry, as a corporate finance adviser. He has had a particular focus on start ups and has advised on and helped to build a wide range of start up insurance and reinsurance businesses, including Montpelier Re in 2001/2 and Lancashire Insurance in 2005/6.

Tristan started his career working for the UBS Investment Banking Financial Institutions team where he worked on a number of post R&R Lloyd’s insurance vehicles. He joined Benfield Advisory, Benfield’s corporate finance division, in 1997 and then ran this business from 2000 until 2011.

He has been involved in all aspects of building start up reinsurers, from raising capital, arranging and managing licences in multiple jurisdictions, arranging and managing Financial Strength ratings, building operating infrastructure and business development.

Tristan will initially support Stuart in building the operations of Conduit Re and ongoing as Head of investor relations and managing the Group’s strategic development.

Greg Lunn

Group Legal Counsel

Greg Lunn is a highly experienced lawyer who has held a number of senior in-house legal in the global insurance and reinsurance industry over the last 25 years

His most recent role in the industry was as Group Legal Counsel for Lancashire Holdings, a Bermuda based London listed Insurance/Reinsurance group, where he was also initially responsible for establishing the Group’s internal audit function. Prior to this role, he spent 10 years in senior management roles in the legal team at a major global insurance and reinsurance Group

Bermuda Class 4 start-up experience in 2006 including the establishment and oversight of the Group’s ERM framework

Greg is based in Bermuda and is responsible for all legal aspects of the Group’s business activities, including all contracts, regulatory matters and any legal actions or disputes, including claims, Company secretarial responsibilities, data protection and regulatory compliance.

Greg Roberts


Greg is a highly experienced and accomplished Property Treaty underwriter with 20 years experience with a successful underwriting track record with industry-wide respected underwriting organisations

His previous experience include a 17 year career at MS Amlin where he became Head of Property Treaty. In 2018, he joined Amtrust to establish and build a new reinsurance division, as Head of AmTrust Re at Syndicate 1861 in Lloyds of London.

Greg has previous start-up experience and was involved in the establishment of Amlin Re in Bermuda in 2006 and creating a new reinsurance business from the ground up for Amtrust in 2018

Greg has particular expertise in Property Catastrophe modelling and exposure management has been responsible for designing and implementing these aspects of the business in previous roles.

Greg has been recognised as an industry leader by Reactions (Property Reinsurance team of the Year 2018) and The Insider (Ranked no.2 in the Global US Catastrophe Underwriter rankings 2018)

Greg is responsible for all Property underwriting at Conduit Re.

Andrew Couper

Chief Actuary

Andrew has joined Conduit Re as our Chief Actuary with responsibility for Pricing, Reserving and Capital Management, working at the heart of the business with the underwriting, finance and risk management teams to ensure a joined up approach to managing insurance risk throughout the business.

Andrew is a qualified actuary and a Fellow of the UK’s Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. He has had a highly successful professional career in the insurance industry spanning over 30 years both in the London Market and Bermuda.

Prior to joining Conduit, Andrew was the Head of Pricing for QBE’s European operations and prior to that he spent 13 years in a variety of senior actuarial and risk management roles for Aspen Insurance Holdings Limited, both in London and Bermuda, including Chief Risk Officer, Group Head of Risk and Group Chief Actuary.

Andrew’s career has allowed him to develop a vast experience in the industry covering all actuarial disciplines and classes of insurance and reinsurance business. He has previous start-up experience and experience of developing new teams and businesses from the ground up as well as in managing more mature businesses.

Andrew Smith

Chief Risk Officer

Andrew is a qualified accountant and an experienced risk management professional with a 25-year career in the insurance and reinsurance industry specialising in risk management and corporate governance.

Responsible for leading the risk function, Andrew’s role includes maintaining the risk framework and providing appropriate second line of defence challenge to all of Conduit Re’s operations. Beyond the risk function, he is also responsible for our initiatives, reporting and external engagement on the topic of climate and in this context serves as Conduit Re’s representative on various external and internal committees.

Prior to joining Conduit Re, Andrew’s experience has included serving as a chief risk officer in the sector, leading risk and capital engagements as a consultant with Big 4 accounting firms, and serving as an independent director for commercial and philanthropic organisations.

Heather Mello

Head of HR

Heather has enjoyed a successful career as a Human Resources professional spanning 15 years and joins Conduit from Lancashire Insurance Group where she was Group Human Resource Specialist and a member of the Bermuda executive committee.

She has significant expertise and experience in all aspects of HR including compensation and benefits, staff recruitment and retention, employee relations, performance management and HR policy development.

Heather has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Metropolitan State University (MN, USA) & Master of Organisational Management in Human Resources from Concordia University (MN, USA), as well as various HR certifications. She has been an active member of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) since 2009 and has sat on the Board of the Bermuda Human Resource Association (BHRA) since 2016.

Heather joined Conduit Re in February 2022 as Head of Human Resources. She will be responsible for managing our people and our social policies, including playing a leading role in delivering the ‘S’ in our ESG strategy.
